Structure Table Sorting

Gambit80

We recently rolled out C3D 2019 and all has been moving along smoothly. Opened a recent job and noticed that the structure table had reordered automoatically. It seems as thought structures labeled with letters, (i.e. CS-1, CS-2) have now been reordered to the top of the table rather than the bottom.

Any thoughts on why this may be or have been changed? Is it possible to change back to previous (2017) behavior?

Thanks!

Sure, Joe. See attached. Pretty positive it is not in the setting, though. I think something in the code changed. Previously the CS-1 in my screenshots would automatically always been at the bottom of any table.

Thanks for looking into it. Another pair of eyes always helps.

Hello Gambit

I just replicated the sort in 2017 and Excel and indeed sorting priority is numeric - alfa and the letters sort to the bottom.

Does this happen in another file? Maybe renumber the structures? I'm wondering if there is a hidden character in your number only structures. if it is consistent in 2018/19 perhaps Autodesk can chime in

Thanks for looking into it, Joe. We just moved from 2017, so you are seeing the same behavior we are.

It does happens even in new files, with a new template, etc. No hidden characters, either.

However, while checking to see if there were hidden characters, I added a space to the end of the structure name in the Text Component Dialog Box under Label Composer just to see what happens and it now is sorted the way we expect.

Thanks for turning my mind towards that. It works for what we need and keeps the Project Managers happy.

glad you found a fix.

you may want to consider opening a service request under you subscription to see what the deal is ... priority should be numeric then alpha.

I gotta ask. Is your handle related to the character?

Seem to missing the location to start a support ticket or I cannot locate it. I'll check again this morning.

Yes, the name is related to the character. My favorite character in X-Men when I was younger. I've thought about changing it to something more....mature...over the years. Oh...and the 80 refers to Jerry Rice, my favorite football player. LOL.

Its plenty mature. Keep it. Life is too short to not enjoy the simple pleasures.

Yes the tech support request is buried pretty good

I just had a chance to look into this. Here are 3 screen captures from 2016, 2018, & 2019, all from the same drawing. 2016 is as it should be, 2018 & 2019 are both not sorted correctly. Even those with alpha characters are not right.

201620162018201820192019

Definitely something changed which shouldn't have.

Thanks, @Jeff_M!

We went from 2017 to 2019, so I never tested on 2018. Interesting it has been around for a few releases without being noticed. However, I didn't notice it in testing, either. We have one PM who insists on having control structures named CS-1, CS-2, etc....

Everyone else numbers them along with everything else.

Any update on your ticket? I am experiencing this in both 2018 and 2019 with Alphanumeric & working fine with simple numeric.

I can submit a ticket as well but I'd like to hear what Autodesk's response was to you first if you don't mind.

It has been given a defect ID (CIVIL-21287) and has been escalated to the development team from an email I received.

They could not give me an exact time frame on when this may be addressed.

If I were you, I would probably open a ticket as well, in order to show this is an issue.
