Strange Corridor Surface Behaviour

Hi,

I'm creating surface from corridor and later will use it to extract fill solids. However, the strange thing is that the corridor surface is cut by the existing surface in some locations. Even tho, in profile there's a clear difference and it is supposed to be fill area. I have attached the images to make sense of what I'm requesting.

You have a fill condition along the centreline of your corridor but how do you know the ground is flat on the left and right side of your corridor?

I believe you have high points in your surface that are intersecting your corridor. Here is a rough sketch of what I think is happening:

Hey,

Thanks for replying. I just checked my surface points other than the centre and they are just fine.  There's no ups and downs over there

Interesting. Difficult to tell what the problem is. Could you take a cross-section at that point and show me what it looks like?

And if you can, maybe share the drawing?

I took a section at the problematic area (station 6965m) and you can see from the image below the NGL is indeed protruding through your road surface at the outside edges. The middle is in fill but due to the slope and width of your road the edges go into a cut condition.

Having said that I noticed the surface you created from your road was the datum surface, so it is obviously lower that the final level of the top of your road. If I create a top surface then the entire surface is above the NGL. You can see this in the images below:

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kyle. Actually I need datum surface to generate cut n fill solids to be used in 4D. If I may request, could you check my file that why sometimes extracting solid from cut n fill surface at surface EG gives an error? It works fine with elevation and depth option when extracting solids.

Sorry I have not replied, I have been away. I tried to extract solids but it failed after a long time with an error code. I looked up the error code and it said that it is an error in creating a union between solids. I think C3D uses AutoCAD 3D modelling commands for creating the solids and the error is coming from there and as far as I can tell it is complaining that the solids are not intersecting.

I am not sure what the problem is but I assume that there may be holes in your surface or part of your corridor is off of the surface. Whatever it is I cannot be of much help.
