Staggering Structure Labels in Profile View

Hello,

I have some structure labels created in a profile view and some structures are close together and the labels over lap. I would like to know if there is a way or method to staggering these labels to prevent the overlap and/or having to just use AutoCAD text in it's place.  We are trying to make all of our Pipe Network labels dynamic in our profiles.  I am attaching a image to show what exactly I am wanting to do. The image show labels in just AutoCAD Text form, not Civil 3D .

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If I understand what you are showing, yes it is possible to get the jog in your linework, if you use dragged state as composed, and the right combination of layout components, you can get it to drag with a jog in it.  If you could share your file, I could take a look at your style and see what might need to be modified to pull it off.

Hello Chris,

This is exactly what I am trying to solve myself. Others at my office have set up vertical pipe station and pipe flow line elevation labels for structures projected into a profile view. Seemingly they did not build in the option to offset/stagger labels, or at least I don't know how to make that happen with these label.

Before we went to pipe network, I had developed a way of projecting point onto a profile view with label styles that easily allowed addition of a vertex which in turn allowed the text part of the label to be dragged sideways.

I am attaching 5 files:

1. 2025-10-6_X-PSITE which is our proposed base files xref'ed into our presentation sheets where all labeling is performed.

2. 2025-10-6_X-STORM which is another XREF file in which the pipe networks (plan & profile) are created.

3. 2025-10-6_STORM DRAIN which is the presentation sheet into which the two previous files are XREF'ed.

4. SD LINE A1_PIPE NETWORK APPROACH which is an image file illustrating the label text overlap problem.

5. SD LINE A1_PROJECTED OBJECT APPROACH which is an illustration of the old way we created profile  labels.

2025-10-6_X-STORM shows the profiles we are currently created with our implementation of pipe networks, which could probably be improved.

2025-10-6_STORM DRAIN shows an example of the older method of projecting points.

Together they should include the older and newer labels we use.

If you need the surface XREFs I can load those too.

Thank you kindly for any help you can give me.

Scott

PS Looks like only 3 attachments allowed so no image files.
