SSD vs HHD performance difference?

Hello everyone,

I work in my companies IT department and we currently run Civil 3d 2015 and all my users PCs are running on standard Hard Drive DIscs.  I would like to begin possibly to Solid State Drives, but im concerned the performance increase would not be that big of a difference to warrant spending so much, as SSDs coost so much more than HHDs.  Can someone please provide some feedback from personal experience if it is worth upgrading at the moment?

Thank you,

Absolutely no question in my mind that C3D benefits from being on an SSD. Not sure where in the world you are but I've just ordered an SSD for my home laptop for £150 for a 500Gb unit.

I'm also of the opinion that an SSD increases the performance of the computer in general and Civil 3D specifcaly.

I spend my own money on my computers I use SSDs for them for Civil 3D and wouldn't go back to HDD. I don't go wild and get the largest available, but I find I have enough room with a 500 GB SSD and then a HDD for additional room. I also don't buy them preinstalled from Dell or HP since their pricing is sometimes way higher than what you can buy elsewhere.

My last laptop had an SSD.  Although the speed was fantastic, the drive failed after about 2 years of use.  It got to the point that it flat out would not boot up even in safe mode.   This was the only drive it had.

Just a caveat.

I just started a new job recently.  I came from using a HHD and now use SSD.  I wouldn't go back.  In just the short time I've used it, I've noticed a big difference with performance doing various tasks.  I highly recommend SSD when using Civil 3D.
