Split Corridor into 2 Baselines w/ diff. Profiles - Keep current regions intact

I have created a road corridor that has a design alignment and an existing ground profile. It is about 1.3km long. The current corridor design is 1 baseline (my design alignment) and the existing profile with about 17 regions. (See the Before Image).

I now have a design profile for the 1st 1.2km that I'd like to attach and remain using the existing profile for the remained of the corridor. I don't want to lose the targeting etc for the regions past the tie-in location to existing.

 

How can I modify this 1 baseline corridor to use 2 baselines so I can attach a different profile to the beginning 13 regions. (See the after Image).

Can this be done somehow or will I have to just remove the last 4 regions, attach a new baseline then redo the regions and targeting?

 

BTW, I'm on C3D 2015

Hi @KPerison

 

When you toggle to your Design Profile for the first 13 regions, your Targets should be maintained.  However, you will have to add another L100 Baseline for the remaining regions that you want to reference the Existing profile... this will require new regions and re-targeting unfortunately.  I don't think there's a quick way around that for those.

 

**  Unless you break up the corridor itself into two and modify the regions already defined accordingly to point to the Profiles you want and remove the regions you don't need in each.  Then you can create a HYB surface that "Pastes" in the Corridor Surfaces from each to have one surface.  Still a pain I realize, but it would save you from having to re-target I guess, if that's a big issue.

You could add a generic link slope and width subassembly between the assembly and the innermost subassembly on each side. You can then target the profile needed with these two (or one depending on the assembly) subassemblies. This way you wouldn't need to split the baseline into two different baselines.

That's what I'd did. I just took some screen shots of my target and override dialogues for each region. Added the same alignment as a 2nd baseline, re-added the last 5 regions, then deleted the same regions from the previous baseline. Wasn't quite the ordeal I thought it was going to be but still a pain. I'm just glad it was only the last 5 regions I had to re-target!

 

Wouldn't it be handy it we could just rt-clk and say move this region to this baseline?

or

Add a profile to each region?

Interesting work around. But I'm sure the next designer who got their hands on it would be left scratching his head thinking "WHY would you do that to yourself?" 🙂

Glad you worked it out.

 

I agree that a right-click option for move Region to another Baseline would come in real handy for these cases.  Maybe post to Ideas page  I would vote for it..
