SHP file importing but not displaying

Hi All

I've imported .shp files into Civil 3D using both the drag and drop method, and the mapimport command.

Initially the link worked perfectly and displayed the map objects as expected.

Now, all the imported shp files no longer display. I can still see the data link in Map 3D. I've tried new drawings and the import works, but will not display the objects.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm using Civil 3D 2016

Cheers

Ryan

Can you post the .shp file?

Are you saying that both methods have failed?

Yes, I have tried both methods and they both result in the same outcome. Map objects appear to be linked but do not display

Dear @Ryan_Civil_Eng,

I am not that aware of shape files. But in general terms is the layer related to this shape file is turned on.?

Thanks

MapImport does not link the objects in the drawing to the external shape file.

So are you saying after MapImport, the objects do show up, but then after closing the drawing and reopening it, they are not there?

Drag and drop creates a FDO (Data connection) If you have the Map display palette on (MAPWSPACE = ON) look at the table then select/highlight one row and zoom to that feature. I'm think you may have an coordinate system issue.

Hi Murph

I've looked into the data connection before. The link seems to be fine, and I've checked the coordinates, both the drawing and the shp file are the same.

What is strange is that the rows in the table of the data connection have the right column headings, but all data entries in the table say "<Null>"?

Cheers

Yes, that is correct - the original linking of the shp file showed the map objects. After closing and reopening they no longer display. And now starting with a new drawing and linking the shp file anew won't display the map objects.

What is the current file size of the shape file? Perhaps an inadvertent deletion occurred

Look in the folder that the shape file(s) are in and see if there is one with and extension of .IDX, if there is delete it/them. Them try to reopen the dwg or reconnect with the data connect.

Thank you for this answer.  I had the same issue and deleting the *.idx file worked to correct the issues.

I have had same issue. Reopening drawing and shapefile appears, magically.
