Seperate Area cut for Structure Excavation of Lined Canal

Good Day to All,

I hope u can help me with how i can separate my area cut as "structure excavation" for my canal as shown in the attached screenshot. Im new with subassembly composer so im having a hard time, maybe you can help me how to make the links and conditions so that i can incorporate it to my quantity takeoff. Post your subassembly file (*.pkt). Be sure to rename to *.zip before posting. This site does not accept .pkt files.

What I will be looking for is any Shape Codes you have added to the Subassembly. This allows you to quantify import. Link Codes will allow you to quantify cut/fill by defining those properties in Compute Materials command.

You can solve this by doing this:

1. Create a Datum Surface for the bottom link of the canal, and then, another Datum Surface for the roadway. But, how to do this? Here it is the answer: 

a. When creating the Datum surfaces, use different links for them. for instance: You can create the Datum surface for the roadway with the Subbase Sode since I could see that this is your deepest layer for the road; and the Canal Datum Surface with the Datum Code as you already created your surface in the drawing you attached. It Should be great if inside your PKT you put a special code for the bottom link of the canal so you don't have any problems when creating this surface.

b. Be careful, you might have to use some boundaries so you make sure those Datum Surfaces are representing what they have to. In the section views, the datum surfaces should represent each element as follows, see the image:

2. When computing materials, create two "Cut&Fill" materials, The first one is going to be:

First: EG surface as Existing ground and "Canal Datum Surface" as your Finished Ground Surface

Second: EG surface as Existing ground and "Roadway Datum Surface" as your Finished Ground Surface

Unfortunately, I couldn't do the process in your file since you didn't send the PKT File of the subassembly for the Canal. I hope you can do it, but if not, let me know and send me the PKT File and I'll help you achieve it.

Hi, @Anonymous  I had not seen your attached pictures the first time I answered, sorry. Now I think I understand what you want. 

I have added some characteristics to your subassembly so you can have a shape (Code: "Cut Material") for computing that amount of cut apart from the other cut material that is computed from the comparison between EG and the Datum surface of your corridor.

Finally, I have added a "Top_Cut" code to the top part of the cut material shape that I created for the canal, and I have modified the code for the bottom part of the canal, which is not going to be "Datum" anymore but "Datum_Canal". By doing all of the previous tasks you can use the "Top_Cut" in your "Roadway Datum Surface" to prevent Civil3D creates the datum again below the canal and that material is quantified twice. See the image:
