Rounding Daylight

Hello,

I am currently working on a project that requires rounding off of the daylight subassembly in such fashion as shown in the first image. On the right in the higher elevation you can see that it is rounding off with a 10 foot radius around the point where the proposed meets existing, however I can not get Civil 3D to replicate this, see in the second image.

In addition to the rounding off between proposed corridors and existing ground I am having trouble creating a smooth intersection, as seen in the third image, that rounds off between the two assemblies/ corridors.

This project has many areas like this with varying intersection of corridors that are difficult to replicate based on the hand drafted cross sections. Being fairly new, only been working with Civil 3D for 2.5 months now, I am trying to find out the best ways to interact between different corridors.

You could make your own daylight subassembly using Subassembly Composer. There is an advanced geometry tool called Daylight Rounding and it includes a property for radius.

The stock subassemblies have rounding options. Here's your 10' radius with a tessellation value of 6.

Thank you Fred I will look more into that. I had not seen the option for rounding.

Thank you Tim. My next attempt was going to be the subassembly composer, the only reason I had not tried it yet is because I am fairly new to Civil and the SAC seemed really difficult to understand.

Now as for the rounding do you know if building that subassembly in the SAC will allow for the rounding to be adjustable with targeting because as you go on to the next station the radius is different as the contact between the upper road and the highway becomes less and less.

Yes you can have SAC take the various measurements for you and then make your radius a function of those measurements. You can also make your radius a function of the baseline stationing.
