OS: Windows 10
Civil 3D Version: 2018.2
I apologize if this has already been addressed. I looked through some of the recent posts on the forum, but it doesn't look as though anyone has tested out the fix that released on April 12, 2018 (located here). I have tried to run RFA after downloading the fix, and it did not seem to change anything. Regardless of what I tried to do, using any of the options available in the ribbon or the menu bar caused Civil 3D to become completely unresponsive. The only way to shut it down was to go to the windows task manager and force-close the program. Has anyone had any success with this fix? Or has anyone found a workaround to use RFA?
Thanks,
Alex
This may be able to help:
River and Flood Analysis causes Civil 3D 2018 to freeze in Windows 10
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that is the same troubleshooting method that I linked in the original post. I have followed those steps and am still encountering the same error.
Thanks,
Alex
Totally read over that part, my apologies. Sometimes doing the following will help:
Take the files in this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Autodesk RFA 2018
and place it in:
C:\Users\<<USER>>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2018\enu\Support
This is the default location that CUILOAD goes to when trying to load a .cuix file. Once the files have been placed in the new folder, unload the River.cuix file and reload it from the new location.
Try using the command in a new drawing....
I was having a similar issue as addressed here... https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/quot-rio-quot-causes-lock-up/m-p/7993363#M371237, but the command window for the River Analysis opened as expected, but only in a NEW, BLANK drawing....
You can XREF the model drawing you are trying to analyze, possibly then bind (insert) into the new drawing.
Hi Michael,
I attempted your solution but had no luck. I see that wlewis has also posted a suggestion, but I have not had the chance to try it yet. I will post an update when I do get to it!
Thanks again for the quick responses.
Alex
What version of Windows 10 are you running? The previous (Fall) update broke RFA. This is a know issue that has not yet been resolved. That is all that I can say.
The Windows 10 April update breaks Infraworks and Hydraflow.
The Infraworks Forum report that Autodesk is working on hotfix for Infraworks.

Do you know if this problem has been solved yet? I just installed RFA and tried to use it and it locked my computer up. I had to use task manager to get out of Acad. I tried it two more times and got the same result. Thanks for any help.
Mike,
I am having the same issue with 2019 Civil 3D freezing up when I try to use a RFA command. I have tried the suggestions listed above in the thread for the issue in 2018 Civil 3D. I also have installed autocad updates, civil 3D updates and reinstalled RFA. Do you know if this issue has been resolved? I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks!
Dale
Just finished building a new CAD computer and installing 2019 suite of ACAD programs, still having the same problem with the lock up in Civ 3d on my windows 10 machine. I've tried every solution but none seem to work yet. All updates have been installed for all Autodesk products.

Hi Mike,
I've just installed River and Flood Analysis 2019 and I have the same issue with the ribbon and the menu bar caused Civil 3D to become completely unresponsive. I've also used your procedure and troubleshooting described in this link https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/civil-3d/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/River... to solve this problem but without any success. Is there any other way to fix it? Is anybody working on this problem at all? I think this problem is known for very long time.
I have to highlight that the file CrossSection.dll, which is supposed to be copied to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2019\enu\Support (…\csy\… in my case) with other files River.cuix, River.dll, River.mnr, River_light.mnr, is not on my HDD at all.
Thanks
Jan
I use:
WIN 10 (October 2018 Update)
Civil 3D 2019 (with updates)
.NET Framework 4.7.2
I notice that you are using the Windows 10 October update. There were file deletion problems with this when first released am MS withdrew it for about a month. It is now rolling out slowly, so many user will not have it yet. Keep that in mind as they respond.
The previous Win 10 update (Spring 2018) broke RFA. I think the new release of RFA is supposed to have fixed that, but have not tested. You might try rolling back Win 10 to the previous release and test. This will help see if the October update is the problem

Dale,
I would say the latest version. My recollection: The 2019 version was not available when the Win 10 Spring update came out and broke RFA for 2018. I do not know if RFA 2018 worked with C3D 2019. RFA 2109 was a long time coming. (September or October?) I have not heard of any newer release or hot fix. Did you try your reseller or a service case?
Good Luck!
Chris

Hi Chris,
I see what you mean but the problem with missing file CrossSection.dll isn't due to October update 'cause I installed RFA 2019 after the latest update on a new PC. I also miss that file on my other PC's where I use Civil 3D 2018 with RFA 2018 but on these computers RFA works fine except for the river.arx problem. And there are installed the Spring and the October updates on these PC's too.
I think that the problem with Win 10 October update was about deleting files in Documents folder and I didn't have problem with this at all. So It isn't that reason in my case at least. In my opinion the downgrade doesn't make sense and I can't do it now for many reasons.
Thank you anyways
Do you have some computers where RFA 2019 is working? If any of them are running Win 10 October, you have eliminated that as the problem.

No, I don't have. I only wanted to say that I don't have problem with RFA 2018 after Win 10 Spring update (RFA 2019 was not release at this time yet, I think). Sorry, I didn't perhaps understand what you had meant.

The solution worked for me for Civil 3D 2019 on Windows 10. Although clicking on the Analysis Options button caused a secondary installer to run which required administrative rights. That should not happen so I would say this extension is not very well written.

FYI the CrossSection.dll file is not part of the installation if you are using Civil 3D 2018 or 2019. But it is part of the install for 2017. So you only need to worry about that file for 2017.
Then you're a lucky man. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I followed those instructions with administrator rights but nothing has changed. I missed the file because It is mentioned in that link for Civil 2018 and 2019. I have to agree with you that the instructions are not written well.
