My company changed it's title block. I am trying to insert the new title block into an existing drawing that had an old title block in it. The old title block had been exploded and I deleted all of it's parts. If I try to copy the new title block into the drawing it comes in as the old. I tried to insert the new title block and redefine it, but when it asks if I want to redefine it nothing happens. It just stays on the insert dialogue box. Any ideas?
I purged the block from the drawing. I then tried to insert it by browsing, selecting the dwg, and set it to insert to 0,0 coordinates. Hit OK, and nothing happens again. So, I set it to specify a point to insert to and the dialogue box disappears and I get a message in the command line saying the block references itself, invalid. Why does it do this?
Sound like the drawing name containing your title block has the same name as the block name you gave the title block itself in the drawing. Try renaming the dwg with the title block to a different name.
I changed the name of the dwg and tried inserting again. I get multiple messages in the command line "Duplicate definition of block ... ignored". The title block does not show up in the drawing, but is on the purge list.
Another suggestion would be to open new title block dwg and use copy with base point (ctrl+shift+c) use 0,0 as base point select new title block then go into other dwg and paste as block (ctrl+shift+v) and use 0,0 as insertion point.
Yes, I had ended up purging the old, copying and pasting the new. I was just hoping someone would be able to tell me why inserting wouldn't work.
You also should check the xrefences; if the old title block is there it will need to be DETACHED. and then purge, and audit.
