".sid was not found or is not valid" error (inserting a .sid into CAD)

Hello

I am trying to insert a 3.5gb .sid into CAD. Using Mapiinsert command gives me an error of ".sid was not found or is not valid" error. Using Mapconnect command does not work either. When connect and adding to map, the image does not appear in CAD.

Anyone have this issue and if so what can be done if anything? File size too big? Using Civil 3D 2021.

Hi Peter,
What Generation is the MrSID? I don't think Map/C3D accepts Gen 4.

I tried .sid3 & .sid4 downloads but both resulted in same error..

It's probably file size, like you said. Can you post a link to that big fella?

At 3.5gb, its probably a Image that's also a Point Cloud/Lidar, you may need to process it with Recap. I'd suggest seeing if you can open the file with @Pointdump's favorite QGIS, bet it will.

tried mapconnect and mapiinsert commands but the large sid file does not insert into CAD. I tried smaller size files and they work just fine. Recap and point clouds were always confusing for me so I decide not to go that route.

then choose any Town and download mosaic. They are fly over aerials both in individual tiles and a Townwide mosaic.

Thanks for the link.
It's nice that the site gives you a choice of Gen 3 or 4. The one I zoomed to first was 1.5GB for a MrSID3 and 180MB for one of the (approximately 100) tiles.
MrSID is a proprietary compressed format. For the same resolution, a Tiff will be 10 times as large as the SID.
I found a Gen 3 Town Mosaic in East Haddam that's 3.8GB(Zipped). I'll test when it finishes downloading.

After unzipping, the MrSID I downloaded is 4.08GB!

Using MAPCONNECT I got an error:
Failed to get bands data.
There is no data in the extent of current map.

Using Raster Tools IINSERT I got this error:
This file is an unknown format or invalid.

Using MAPIINSERT I get a spinning blue wheel, and then nothing.

QGIS opens it, no problem.

GeoViewer opens it, no problem.

Thanks Dave. Same results as me huh.

What are QGIS and GeoViewer? Are they free? I do have Arcmap but dont think it would convert using arctool box from sid to another format to bring into CAD, correct?

ArcMap, >>>QGIS<<<, and >>>Geoviewer<<< will all convert a MrSID to Tiff, but the Tiff will be 10 times the size of the SID. Unless you seriously downgrade the resolution quality.
It looks like the only option here is to use the tiles. Raster Design will easily merge a few of them together to cover your project area.

Forgot to add one nice thing about GeoViewer is that it is very easy to crop a portion of the big file and save as a Tiff.
