Projected profiles disappear when re-opening file

I created some profiles from surfaces and projected them into a profile view.  I created data shortcuts of the projected profiles to use in other files.  When I bring in the data shortcutted profiles they display as expected, but when I close and reopen the file they disappear from view.  They are still listed in the toolspace, but they do not display.  I tried promoting them, but they disappear immediately when I do that.  The only work around I have been able to find is to explode the profiles.  If the alignment that they are based from changes I re-display and explode them.

Anyone else have this problem?

Are you talking about Superimposed Profile or Project Objects to Profile View? It sound like Superimposed Profile, but you never said that in your message.

I am talking about superimposed profiles.

This only happens when you add the superimposed profiles through data reference? If you promote them before superimposing, does that keep the disappearance from happening?

I created the projected profiles in drawing "A" and also created the data shortcuts in drawing "A". When I display the projected profiles in drawing "B" using the data shortcutted versions they disappear after re-opening the file. If I promoted them in drawing "B" they disappear immediately, but still show up in the toolspace.

Hello, were you ever able to resolve this issue?  I am assisting one of our users with this same problem right now but I am not having any luck.

I tried deleting the references to the profiles (offset profiles) and recreating them, which allows them to display but then after reopening the drawing they are all missing again.

Very strange.

Thanks,

This is still a problem in 2023, running C3D 2024.  Way too many bugs in Civil3D these days, I'm contemplating switching to something else.

My workflow was identical to the creator before finding this post.  Since then, I created surface profiles for each of offset alignments then superimposed them.  So now they live in the file and not as a dref.  After closing and reopening, the profiles remain.  This is a potential solution, but I'm interested to hear from someone with more experience.

Thanks,

You don't need to hear from someone with more experience. You just created experience for us all.

Having same issue in C3D 2025. Was able to recreate with a blank template and following the OPs instructions.
