Hi All, I took a crash youtube course on pressure pipes yesterday and I seem to have a basic grasp of it. 

 

I am trying to run a 36" water main and the issue I am currently having is the deflections are out of whack.  In my parts list i have 1deg of allowable deflection in my pieces and elbows, but it is generating a profile with pieces that are out of spec.

 

I am using a reference surface I created out of a pipe invert profile that I was doing a little trial and error to get appropriate cover underground...the profile of the surface has angles that are close to meeting the deflection requirements.  I have a horizontal polyline that I have at a "0" elevation, so I was hoping that the pressure pipe creator would force the pipe to be created within the allowable deflection design criteria at an offset cover not being less than 5', for example, but meeting deflections....so at some points the depth would be much greater than 5'.  It seems like it just wants to ensure the 5' of cover and not really care as much about the deflection.

 

Can you not force this command to create a vertical profile of the pipe to be within the allowed deflection values?

 

I know I probably didn't explain this very well, but hopefully you get the idea of it.

Can you post your drawing for that?  Its going to be difficult to diagnose without being able to review the drawing.  In particular I would review the part list to see what the allowable deflection is there.  Its going to use that when helping you layout the pipe.

I can hopefully post it a little later today.

 

I am using the imperial "push on" catalog.  I changed from the default 1.5deg to 1deg of deflection.

Here is a drawing with a polyline which could be considered the centerline alignement of the 36" pipe, a surface which could be considered a proposed excavation surface and the pressure pipe network parts list should be in there under "Test".

 

I don't natively work in civil3d, I do a majority of my work in Carlson rooted in civil3d, so I'm not 100% familiar with everything in stand alone civil3d.

 

while preparing this file, I put the polyline at a zero elevation and then limited the verticies from when it was a 3d polyline down to just the horizontal verticies.  After that i tried creating a pipe network again and it only created elbows at the horizontal vertexes and did not reference the surface except for at those horizontal vertexes...not sure whats up with that. 

 

**I translated the linework to 0,0 from their state plane coordinates.

One, really important piece of information that I'm not seeing.  What version of Civil 3D are you using?  the workflow completely changed between 2020 and 2021, and has steadily improved through at least 2024 (I haven't started using 2025 to see if there were further improvements)

I believe that part of the problem with following the terrain, Civil 3D does not recognize each pipe segment as a separate pipe, so it is only watching the deflection at the ends of the pipes where they connect to a fitting or appurtenance, not where the pipes are connected to each other.

If you were to place pipe points at every connection, it will place bends where deflections previously appeared.
