Pressure Network Pipe run Profile Vertical offset

Hi

I can copy pressure pipe run profile and raise/lower the copied profile to my requirements (see snapshot). But it would be useful if we could dynamically offset the pressure pipe run profile vertically so that when we modify the pressure pipe run profile the offset profile updates automatically. Could you tell me if there is a way to do this. I am using C3D 2022.

Hi @shashimanandhar1417, one way I think you can achieve a secondary flowline profile from your pressure pipe run profile is to: Extract the Auto featureline from your pipe run alignment/profile > create a (flat 10' wide) corridor > create a corridor surface > lower that surface to get you FL/IE's > add the Profile Surface into your profile view.

 

We typically do the same thing for IE/FL's in order to add profile labels every 50'.  It's not exactly the cleanest way, but I'm testing it out right now.

You can use third-party addon like Sincpack-C3D, as it has a Dynamic Link tool for profiles to be linked with other elements like other profiles or surfaces.

Hi V_Silvestre,

That works absolutely fine. Thank you very much for your idea. This resolves some of the deficiencies of pressure network system. Hopefully there will be tools developed and included on Civil 3D for this process.

Hi Ahmed,

Thank you for suggestion to use third party addon. But my company does not allow to use third party software. For now V_Silvestre's idea works absolutely fine. I would suggest to adopt his idea for this type of issue.

Hi Silvestre,

Your idea works fine for equal diameter pipes but when we use different diameters using reducers it becomes more complicated to get a correct pipe run profile more over difficult to get the Flow line profile. I understand we can make additional assembly to represent the different pipe diameter but still it is not straight forward. Interested to know your opinion and suggestion.

Hi @shashimanandhar1417, I can't think of anything at the moment besides creating additional assemblies/subassemblies  My only other suggestion would be to look into Dynamo.  I'd need someone who's more familiar with it to confirm, but it seems like that would be something you could write a dynamo script for.
