polylines to shape files

Need to create a shape file from an lwpolyline???

use the mapexport command. Select ESRI shp as the type and provide a path/name.

In the Selection dialog select Line as the Object Type and you and filter which polylines you want a few different ways.  On te Data tab you can choose any properties you want exported to Attributes and on the Options tab you can alter the coordinate system.

Ok, let's go to the point: I would argue about that, mr.Derel.

You choose "Line" if the polylines are open, but if they are closed (e.g. buildings' footprint) you have to choose "Polygon" with checked "Treat closed polylines as polygons" in Options Tab.

You'd ask: "What for, man?"

Well, if you load a polygonal shape in a Gis tool, it's easier to get info about an object by clicking "inside" it, without laboriously "aiming" on its linear boundary, isn't it?

Moreover, with "Polygon" you may export the topology of complex objects, e.g. islands or donuts.

Finally, no matter of type, in the Tab option you have the mysterious "Driver options" button, which allows you to export full 3D shapes like elevated contours.

Since when I frequent this valuable forum, greedily I read your and other gurus' posts about FDO and similar news supported by newer releases than mine.

Even if I cannot practice them in my Map2006, theoretically I know many things about that, so I dare to answer "higher" questions, apologizing if sometimes I write follies...
