Hi All,

I have locked a point group in my drawing. Now as it is locked & also I can see a lock symbol in prospector tab It can not be modified. But when I change try to change these display style of this point group I am able to change. Do any one have any Idea why this is happening.

Thanks!

Jason,

I think the lock only locks the coordinates of the points, but not any styles.

@Pointdump is correct - Locking a feature in Civil 3D only locks the DEFINITION (geometry) - not the style(s) being used.

Thanks All,

I thought so as you do. But if you  go to the help section it says that none of its properties can be changed if it is locked. Including styles. Please see attached.

You locked the POINT GROUP, not the POINTS in the point group. Different things. Locking the points in a point group will act as you have mentioned - locking the point group will not. When you right click the point group, choose LOCK POINTS (at the top), not LOCK, which locks the POINT GROUP DEFINITION

I tried both. Found the same result. If I change a single point or a point group in both case I can modify its style. But, coordinated are locked as you said.

Thanks!

You will still be able to edit the styles in the locked point group, but if you select an individual point and go to PROPERTIES, you will not be able to edit the styles. If you are seeing something different then please post your drawing and I can look at it.

Yes, It is so. I can not change individual Point properties from property panel. But able to change from point group property dialogue box. Is this how point lock actually work?

It is how they work - but whether it SHOULD work that way is debatable. Locking an object (any object) will allow you to still change the styles. Changing the styles of a point group changes the points IN the point group. Locking a point prevents you from editing the style of that point individually, but you can still can override the styles via the point group. It's a little strange, but that's the intent.
