Point Cloud Coordinate System

I have a point cloud that is on an assumed coordinate system. My Civil 3d drawing is set to no projection/no datum. When I import the LAS, nothing is happening. Any insight??

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

A point cloud without a Coordinate System should work in AutoCAD. It's done all the time with inside-the-building point clouds.

But when we're talking about point clouds from aerial LiDAR, even though it should work with no projection/no datum, why wouldn't you want to locate it on the earth? Any chance you can get the metadata for the point cloud file?

When you say "nothing happens", can you list your EXACT steps? Can you post your data for testing? (It might be a defective file)

You don't get the little notification at the bottom right of your screen to say that Civil3d is sleeping working on it?

Does the point cloud pop up in the prospector?

Does your point cloud style have layers which aren't turned on?

As Dave says you need to be very specific about what 'nothing is happening' actually means. For instance, can you even move your cursor?

cheers

Have you tried using RECAP? You can turn the RECAP file to a Surface..

I was actually able to process the data just fine on my laptop when I got home. My work computer must have been struggling a bit. Thanks for replying.

Do you know what the extension is for the metadata?
