Pipes change inverts every time I click on rebuild surface Civil 3d 2019

Hi everybody and thanks in advance for your attention,

We have recently updated civil 3d from 2018 to 2019. We are finding an issue where the pipes are changing inverts as well as the structures change their depth every single time we click on rebuild surface.

This issue does not happen when opening exactly the same file in Civil 3D 2018.

Does anyone have any idea of what is causing this?

Thanks.

Check your pipe networks for pipe rules.  Rebuilding the surface may be triggering those rules.   (like a rule for minimum pipe cover)

Thanks for your response.

The files were created in c3d 2018 and, and the rules have not changed on that file.

When we click on rebuild surface for the first time it changes both inverts and slopes. If you keep clicking on rebuild surface the pipes will lower their inverts.

The file works correctly when opening it in c3d 2018.

Thanks.

We just started working with 2019 and I am having the exact same issue.  I did't have this issue with 2017 but the new guy saved the file under 2019 now the pipes keep changing when they didn't in 2017.  I don't know how long it will work but i created a rule with nothing in it and so far it seems to work.  This is a big error for a new release.  How do I finish the project when the pipes keep resetting.  I tried to save back and I ended up with a 2d dwg all the 3D components were gone.

Ok, the no rules didn't work.  We are now having to revert to an old save and re due about two weeks of work because 2019 pipes don't work.

Hi @bfondevila,

I would like to state upfront that I don't work in Civil 3D but that I am only passing on information that I have been able to obtain with the help of other specialists.

One specialist spent some testing 2018 product and found that it holds all values when rebuilding the surfaces and when referencing surfaces but this is not necessarily the case in Civil 3D 2019.

In 2019 that drawing that does not show any issues works in 2018 and 2019. Although it has no surface references.

I will escalate and create a case for you so we can get a more hands-on approach for your issue. This will help bring it to development for them to examine.

@john.vellek

Thank you very much for all your help. Hopefully, they come out with a solution soon.

We will keep using c3d 2018 until then.

Thanks.

Devin started a thread on the topic here:  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/c3d-and-pipe-networks-very-buggy/td-p/7985461

In short, several different tasks seem to be triggering your pipe rules, which definitely shouldn't be happening.

A workaround might be to open the file in 2018, remove all rules from your specific rule set, save, and then open the file in 2019.  When the rules get triggered, nothing will happen because there are no rules to apply.

I submitted a support request six days ago on this issue, and I was issued Case Number 14212977.  To date, I haven't heard a peep from Autodesk.  Nothing whatsoever.  The ticket is just sitting in their support queue with no response, no technician assigned, and no acknowledgement.

It would probably be helpful if everyone who has experienced this could also submit a request.

Hi @bfondevila

First, I apologize for this delay in reaching out. I am very sorry about that. Second, this error has been brought to us.  We have logged this with our development team. It has been logged as CIVIL-22068. Please feel free to keep this for your records. I will now pass this along to the development team. Due to testing, I cannot comment on date for a fix.

Thanks!

The issue was fixed with the release of the C3D_2019_1_Update. We switched to 2019 after the update, and we have not had any issues.

Thanks.

Are there pipe rules being applied to the pipes?

We are having the same problem even when we close and reopen a file with no changes.
I have tried to disable the rules (which at the end is worst because you need to calculate all the invert levels again if something change) but does not work.
This problem is happening in 2019 and 2020.

Is really annoying to deal with this problem and almost impossible to work in coordination with other disciplines if you have to check the network after every change.

Comment for users. If you are working in coordination with other disciplines using Naviswork, a good option is to have and auxiliar file in solid3d with the whole network. After changes, copy to that file only the parts that were modified in that way at least you avoid checking the entire system for every single export.

Come on Autodesk DO BETTER!!!!

Uploading and installing latest patch from Autodesk fixed the issue

Was this ever fixed for 2019?  Or in later versions of C3D?

@robert3DCM5

For the 2019 version, the issue was fixed with the .1 update. Please see message 11 of this thread.

It would not surprise me if this issue appears again. One of the 2020 updates, was corrupting profiles again, a fix was released shorty after. Then the 2022.1 update reversed the headwalls on profiles. The 2023 release is supposed to fix this headwall issue but we have not tested it yet.

Thanks for the response.  I thought that our 2019 was fully updated, it says I have version 13.0.613.0, and my Autodesk App to check for updates doesn't seem to be working to check (just a blue spinning wheel, which my forum search reveals as another problem I have to fix).  Thanks again.
