Pipes are near zero elevation instead of sloped - Pipe Networks-1A tutorial

I am doing the tutorial "Exercise 1: Creating a Pipe Network from a Polyline" in Civil 3d 2024.

https://help.autodesk.com/view/CIV3D/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-71E14F2E-4F72-45B2-A18D-106D3E18FC0D

My rim elevations look appropriate (following the road grade), while the pipe invert is at -.22m.

What is driving the invert elevations that I am missing?

Somehow the basice rule was not appied when created by poly line.

select the modify tab>> pipe networks the drop down choose apply rules. pick the upstream manhole an then the downstream manhole

and you will get this

If you are new to rule, edit the partlist and investigate  the rules column. This is how to make pipe networks work for you.

and a secret, not really a secret but wasn't obvious to me 18 years of using this program. You can have different rules for different size pipes. if you do sanitary piping to 10 state standards this really shines.

storm to I guess

Hello Joe, I appreciate your input. Yes I am new to rules with pipe networks. For some reason I am still unable to get the rule applied when I follow your instructions. The rule looks like it is set up the same also. Do you have any other thoughts what might be preventing the rules from applying?

Hello Ross, when you choose:"apply" rules, does the entire network highlight after selecting the last manhole?

you should see the pipes and manholes in between highlight then enter

Hello Joe,

Yes the entire network gets highlighted when I select the two end structures after pressing "apply rules".

Hello Joe,

I tried to respond yesterday with your email address. I see that wasn't the proper method, that I was supposed to just press reply. At the time I was interested in seeing what you could see. This morning I got a notice that the email didn't go through.

Since then I've got a different computer with 2024 and 2025 C3D freshly installed. The rules are currently applying. Thank you for your offer to share screens.
