Pipe to pipe connection (without breaking the primary pipe / structure)

Hi,

Im trying to connect to a primary pipe (A) a secondary pipe (B), i dont want pipe A to break but id like to achieve a connection point between end of (B) placed somewhere along the length of (A). Just so moving the pipe (A) along XYZ the connection point will follow.
I found an add-in called "Naviate pipe" that does exactly what I'm after:
Type in youtube:   "Naviate pipe 2021 - create service pipe"

Is there a way in Civil 3d to achieve this? Eventually using some workflow via python/dynamo.

Thank you!

Pardon the naive question, but why would you connect without connecting?

Hi, thanks for your reply. Id like the secondary pipe to connect to primary pipe without splitting the primary in two. This is because if the primary splits in two, i have to control two different pipes/slopes in case I change the IL of either the start/end of the primary pipe.
In case i can simply connect the secondary to the primary without splitting the primary, any changes to the IL of start/end of the primary would automatically keep the same slope for the primary and move accordingly the secondary. I hope it makes sense?!... In the YouTube video is probably more easy to understand than my writing. Thanks again

I have asked this as well, and it seems to be a feature not a bug in 2023/24. Before, pipes would not interact between networks, but now they do.

Personally, when I do pipe networks, I do alignment and profiles, extract the FL and create the pipes. Then I always know what I have.

Thanks Damiano83, I have already put in an "ideas" suggestion.

"Pardon the naive question, but why would you connect without connecting?"

I can give you one example. When I create a gravity network, I create a separate services network. There is a Sewer Laterals command in the sincpac where I can set the laterals to do anything I want them to do by linking them to the main network. Slope, bury depth, Crown to Crown, invert to invert etc. etc. Anytime I edit the main network the laterals will tag right along all while holding slope. Pretty awesome. (Thought I'd give you one example of connecting without connecting.)

Right, but doesn't the service break the sewer mainline at every connection wye, because networks interact now?

That wasn't exactly how I read the OP. In my mind I saw a trunk line and a side street intersecting and the user was asking for the side street to drag along with the stretch of the trunk.

As for House connections I more or less do the same with one exception. Assuming water is 5-feet to bottom of trench, HC have to go under by 1.5' clear. Therefor the HC start at the ROW at -6.5 and run 2% to the trunk which start at -7 feet of cover. The object here is to minimize the trench excavation. if the plumber needs a vertical drop to the wye, I am ok with that. Rarely do I adjust the the HC from the standard minimum 2%

Hi RobertEVs,

Just having a check to your post you sent last February.  Just wondering how is possible to call the dialogue box that you are posting in this thread and if it is possible to find a Youtube video or any help in the web to learn how to connect pipe to pipe.  Today I did a post in this Forum with this question and after a couple of hours... no answer.

In advance, thank you for your help

Regards,

Ralph
