Pipe Network Synchronize vs. Promote and warning message request

Dear Autodesk,

We use Data Shortcuts for all our pipe networks.

Would you please change the menus for Pipe Network functions so that "Promote" isn't directly next to "Synchronize" and also add a warning or more warning messages for if someone accidentally selects "Promote" instead of Synchronize?

We synchronize our pipe networks often as we're working in a project. Between existing cad files, proposed cad files, pipe network cad files, plan & profile sheet cad files - pipe networks can be Synchronized a lot. We use the "Promote" command on pipe networks sometimes, but very rarely.

Annoyingly, we are having too many problems where pipe networks accidentally get Promoted instead of Synchronized, and it's a time-consuming mess to clean up once we've realized it's happened.

We've got summer interns accessing CAD files and it happens more than one would think.

The command options for Synchronize vs. Promote Pipe Networks could be moved AWAY from each other on the menu. Also, adding Warning message(s) when "Promote" is selected would be good. Are you sure you want to Promote? Are you sure??  Oops, darn I just wanted to Synchronize. Good thing that warning message popped up! I thought I'd selected "Synchronize" phew.

But not really Phew because a warning message(s) for Promote is needed. This is happening far too often & creating big messes to clean up.

Thanks if you can help Autodesk. Or, is there advice to avoid this potential Accidental Promote vs. intended to synchronize mishap?

Unfortunately I doubt Autodesk will change the location of a command based on this feedback.  This might not be helpful but would you consider using XREFs for pipe networks instead?  I almost never DREF my pipe networks now, I find the workflow too finicky.  Is there a particular reason why you need to DREF your networks into other drawings beyond what an XREF can do?

Even if promoted you can always go to the Data shortcut Manager and re-link promoted shortcuts.

As mentioned. It's unlikely you'll get a change by Autodesk. Plus this is a peer to peer support forum. You might try posting to the Civil 3D Ideas forum.

I haven't tried this. But, it might be possible to make the change in the CUI.

I doubt Autodesk will move positions of anything in menus. They won't even fix bugs that are over a decade old. But I do agree the warning would be nice.

The only way I see a warning message being added is if it's through a 3rd party app that either has it already or are willing to add it. I requested a DropGeom warning from Sincpac and it was added.

We'd never just use Xref's because we're labeling pipe networks in the P&P sheets, also checking things about them when designing in a Corridor file. We use 2 Design CAD files for engineering, then have separate P&P sheet files where labels are controlled carefully for contract drawings. The Engineering files get copied to create constructing staking files and As-Built drawings. It works well for us.

Jeff is super quick with adding requests for the Sincpac. I envy his knowledge.
