Hello Community

we have some discussions in our company about performance. We build bigger Waterpumpstations, usually in 2d.

But now, our costumer wants nice detailed 3d Models. I'm in the process to build one up and it's a pain in the ....

3d movement only over Viewcube, takes 20 sec to move, Visual Styles only 2d Wireframe (all other crash), Object Viewer Crash often, civil crash often out of the blue... And i did not at any details, no fence, no lighting, no pipe details, no buildings (xrefs), no 3d Plant Model (xrefs)...

Details from the model at the moment: existing ground is build up on around 3000 cogo Points on 300'000sqm, got some Daylight bench gradings in it, frequency 1-2 meters, stacked some surfaces, made some road corridors frequency 5.0 / 1.0m - file size is around 40mb

our Workstation system: Win7, Intel Xeon E5-163, Nvidia Quadro K2200 (4GB), 16GB Ram

soo, is our system that bad? is our file that big?

What system do you guys run?

Is it possible to work good on files with +300mb in civil 3d 2020, with what components?

Thanks all, hope i got some good inputs!

Hi @Matthias.Stoffel ,

300+ MB is a very large size for the Civil 3D drawing. Here is the list of requirements for the Civil 3D 2021.

Make sure the graphics driver is updated and All the Civil 3D updates are installed.

Thanks for replay.

To handel a file this size, is it just a matter of hardware or is it limited to C3D?

Has C3d a max cap of file size?

Sorry for all this quastions, but is realy hard to get on some numbers.. To argu with the IT managment for upgrades, i need hard facts and i dont want to overshoot the buged..

Something seems to be corrupted.

I INSERTed the DWG into a blank one and I was able to add a new PVI without the lockup.

Woops, I replied to the wrong thread.  Is there a way to delete my post.

Sorry.
