OSNAPZ

I'm using Civil 3D 2022.   The issue Im having is with the OSNAPZ command.  Setting OSNAPZ = 1 so elevation of line should be 0.

When drawing lines between point nodes with OSNAPZ set to 1, the resulting elevation is 0.  But if I edit the line using grips and snapping to the point it changes the end point of the line to the elevation of the point.

It has never done this until recently.  I did get a new pc and a fresh install of Civil 3D so maybe there is a setting Im forgetting about.

I've seen post about this back to 2013. This is a workaround I posted then.

A workaround might be to use polylines instead of lines. Even if you only draw one segment between points. Once the elevation of the polyline is at 0 using grips on a vertex or endpoint won't change it.

Another possible workaround would be to use the very old command Change.

Command: CHANGE
Select objects: 1 found
Select objects:
Specify change point or [Properties]: nod

Not as convenient as Grips. But it respects the OSnapZ setting.

Are you working with lines or Feature lines?  Other than a very brief stent when C3D 2020 was first released, Feature line editing has always snapped to the elevation of a point during grip editing.   I agree with the thought to use polylines, I have found that lines are not of very much value in the workflows that I tend to do.  I'm either working with polylines or 3d polylines (or straight up feature lines).

I've since resolved the issue with grip editing by adding a macro to my right click that ignores the z elevation.

.Z;@;

This can be added to the right-click shortcut menu for grip editing
