Opening MicroStation DGN files with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2023

   I have beginner experience working with AutoCAD, and I am finding that attaching or importing the DGN files into AutoCAD will not allow me to edit the DGN underlay.       I do notice that after I attach, or import (or drag and drop) DGN into AutoCAD a duplicate (DWG) file will be created in the CAD File folder from which I am retrieving DGN files. This is all good! Except that now I would like to combine all newly converted DWG files into one(1) DWG file to create Model, or Tin, and am unsure of insertion point and how that may affect coordinate values for Operators in field. For those more experienced with insertion points when working with coordinates please forgive.      In addition, some DGN files will not attach or import, likely due to format I’m guessing;  For example I will get AutoCAD Message as follows:   Internal error. As a result, no geometry is created. Causes: The DWG file used to create the DGN file contains OLE objects.       Any suggestions or advice provided would be greatly appreciated and very helpful. Thanks so much!!   P.ost S.cript : AutoCAD Map 3D?

@Amessurvey

you might try the following:

To edit your DGN underlay, right click the underlay in your external reference manager, and select BIND, this will produce a block that can be edited or further exploded.

To mitigate the multiple DWG files and create a combined file, try selecting the following:

Capture1.JPG

For your error, you might try starting from a clean acad template to ensure there are no OLE objects, this post seems to support this: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Intern...

Further you might try the following scenarios:

No references in DGN to be imported:

Capture-no refs.JPG

References in the DGN to be imported:

Capture-with refs.JPG

From here, see "BIND" statement above.

Let me know if any of this helps!
