OFFSET ALIGNMENT PROFILE - created with no vertical data

Hi, I seem to have the problem of a number of my offset alignment profiles (dynamic to the centreline profile) being created with no vertical geometry.  I can check the properties of the offset profile using the prospector, but the profile seems to be a shell with no data.

Is there a way to recreate a dynamic offset profile (linked to offset alignment) without re-creating a NEW offset alignment?  The reason is that I have connected alignments and corridors all linked to the original offset alignment and would prefer not to have to make a new one.

It guess it's because of this that some of my connected alignment dynamic profiles have no data either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey careysenior,

I just had a very similar problem and was looking for a solution. Unfortunately, very little input was found in multiple threads.

I was updating my surface (which takes an auto-feature line as input) and noticed this feature line was not updating anymore with elevation changes. Further investigation revealed the offset alignment that the auto-feature line was based on had broken its Vertical Data ties with the parent alignment. I had no idea what could've caused this, and even re-offsetting additional alignments came out with zero vertical data. This situation seems to be very similar to your issue.

Then I realized I had added a PVI in the parent alignment profile at some earlier point in time (nevertheless after creating the initial surface). I deleted this PVI and the offset alignment snapped back to reality and regained vertical data ties with the parent. I suppose Civil3D did not like the STA I initially placed the PVI on the parent alignment and for some deep internal reason the offset alignment broke. Maybe this is tied with the geometry of your parent alignment; the station of that PVI I added was close to a very sharp turn in the alignment and maybe that caused some issues with the vertical data transfer between parent and offset.

Not sure if you added such a PVI but maybe this answer helps another person down the road!

Your main alignment can have any PIs in it at all.  Make sure you have horizontal curves so that your alignment is tangent everywhere and remove all extra PIs even if the two segments don't have any angle change.  I just had the same problem and just correcting my alignment made everything pop back in and start working properly.

Hi Careysenior,

I have been searching for this issue, and reached here, just thought of share few interesting findings.

Offset alignment profile is disappeared like you said exactly from the pvi which added later to the profile.

So, a few trail error method solved the issue, work flow is changed as follows.

1. Before editing the design profile to add an additional pvi, create profile view of offset alignments.

2. Noticed, if created profile views, adding later an additional pvi to the parent profile keeps my offset profile intact.

3. While creating corridor through intersection wizard, we have to choose our offset alignments and profiles manually.( Obliviously we will do that as already made it)

4. This will bring offset profiles intact and corridor properly.

Now, if we choose to create offset alignments and profiles automatically while in the intersection wizard, the offset profile will disappear if we have made any changes by adding additional pvi after creating design profile. Might be an error in the had core..

Just thought this may help few others have same issues..

Thanks & Regards

Sinoj

Just putting this out there for anyone else stuck on the offset profile issue. I've spent hours trying to find a solution then came across this

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Offset-alignment-i...

Basically all I had to do was PURGE then AUDIT and my offset alignments profiles came back
