Next Point Number is picking used points when C3D is started

When I set points in C3D 2016 or 2020, the starting point number (aka Next Point Number) is listing an already used point number.  For example, I set points 1-500 and Save/Close my dwg.  Then, when I open the dwg again, the Next Point Number will be listed as something (random?) like 350.  When I list my points, all 500 are there.  When I export the points, there are all there.  I need it to go to the next available number, in the example 501.  It's frustrating to open a dwg and have to list points just to see what the last number I used was.

In the attached ss, the next point is 979 although I'm in the 1045 range.

Any suggestions?

So many questions...

By "set points" do you mean create them? What happens when you just enter the number 1000 or something in the next point number box? Does it behave correctly on a version that is not 2015 or 2020?

Yes, creating them.  This morning I opened C3D 2020 and it showed the next point was 1118 although it should have been 1123.  I created some new points, starting at 2001 through 2003, then saved & closed.  On reopening the DWG, it still showed 1118.

Seems like a disconnection between the creation of the points and "Next Point Number" (NPN).  If I don't change the NPN to what it should be, it will not set the point although it goes through the motions (like description, elevation).  If I change the NPN to an already used point, it tells me the NPN must be unique so it's recognizing the stored points.

It's like the NPN is referencing a cached point list or something.  If I could figure out how to force it, that would work.  I thought maybe exporting the points would do this but it has no affect.

You could try a Repair of your Installation, using the Control Panel.  Less than a minute.

I have tried all the above suggestions and still no luck.

Side Note: work has been crazy with everything going on so I haven't been able to get on here much.
