New to Civil 3D- why are my line lengths not snapping?

I feel like this is so basic I've found nothing helpful in my searches, but maybe someone on here can help!

All I want to do is specify a starting point and length for a line (shown in green). I pick "create line" then click my starting point on the building, I enter 75 (I want it to go 75' from the base point, I have already confirmed the drawing is set in feet and existing dimensions are to scale), hit enter and the line snaps to a different random point each time. Going back to measure the line, I have shown it not being 75' at all. 

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I am used to the mechanics of Revit where you just drag, enter the number and you're done, and everything I can see online says that's what should be happening here. I'd really rather not manually drag each line as close to the desired length as possible.

It should be as simple as typing in 75 and pressing Enter.

Is it always wrong by the same amount?

Check the length of the line in the properties window vs a dimension. (dimension style may have a altered linear scale multiplier)

For some reason I have noticed that if Dynamic Input is on, it will not work. Turn it off (F12).

Could it be that the line you drew is 75' long but it has to different Z values, one for the start and the other for the end. Check the properties of the line and see if that's the case. You might need to adjust the value of OSNAPZ, if the properties reveal a line that is indeed 75' but in 2 different planes

Thanks for your response! In the properties, you are right, the length is correct. I'm slightly confused as to why the dimensional scale differs so much, but it's nothing I can't work around. Thanks!
