Is anyone else finding the new INSERT command painfully slow - first time it is used it takes 60 seconds from issuing the command to ready to use but it is quicker on subsequent uses (presumably because a lot of the data is cached somewhere).
It looks like CLASSICINSERT could be pressed into service...!!!!!

Agreed. I think there is some nice functionality in the new insert menu but it's way too slow. I'm hoping this will be fixed in an update or hotfix. For now I have switched back to CLASSICINSERT.
Hey @neilyj666 and @aaronm ,
we are currently looking into performance related topics with the new Blocks Palette, so bare with us
In the meantime I think I can provide you with some additional tricks to circumvent part of the issue.
Thank you guys by providing feedback regarding new implemented features, as we are trying to improve them.
I hope this is of some help to you. For now, have an awesome weekend
Cheers,
Dominique

Thanks for the info - I installed the hotfix and there was no noticeable difference in performance (first time very very slow and second and subsequent time very fast as expected)
I then set BLOCKMRULIST to 0, closed and restarted Civil and the dialog was instantaneous ()
The logical conclusion is that loading the recent blocks slows down AutoCAD?

Hey @neilyj666 ,
I agree that this is where, in CSI terms , the"circumstantial evidence" points to.
We are currently gathering feedback and looking into this matter as we speak.
For now, I can only point to the possible solutions that I stated before. As soon as this has been fully evaluated we will try to provide improvement in upcoming updates.
If possible, for the time being, don't forget to hit my original reply up with "Accept Solution".
Cheers,

Dominique,
Thanks for the info. I have found the same results as Neilyj. I'm really hopeful that Autodesk can get to the bottom of these block issues. For now I have switched back to the new insert command with BLOCKMRULIST set to 0.

@neilyj666 I just did a OOTB Install of 2020 and them opened a former 2019 template did a save as and did not see the issue you describe and this is on a desktop using a standard ATA harddrive. Took only a couple seconds to load and show existing blocks for access on the new INSERT dialogue. NOT discounting your or others issue regarding the command.

Interesting - how many blocks are in your drawing? What is the MRU list setting?

The BLOCKMRULIST=50 which is the default as far as I know, and I have roughly 100 or so blocks. My starting template is about 600kb, as I'm in the process of recreated a new clean template.

Hi,
you might also try to set the visibility from an icon type to "Details" or "List", so AutoCAD does not need to recreate the block-previews.

Set BLOCKMRULIST to 0 works. Recommend C3D set this value a default to the download files to save time. Thx!
The new insert command is complete rubbish and almost unusable, I fail to see it as an improvement at all.
Especially when they have used it to co-opt the Insert command, which unless I am mistaken is there to be used to insert blocks not look at a list of blocks. The Design centre is for that.
In my view it is a total screw-up and completely inconvenient.
now instead of typing "I" (for INSERT command)to insert a block I have to type "CLASSICINSERT" or sit there and hit "I " (for LOOK AT A LIST of BLOCKS command), then hit the browse icon search the block library, hit open, then see that it has added to the list then select it out of the list, then and only then can I have access to the INSERT command. how does this improve on the simplicity of the earlier iteration of the Insert command?
Edit your PGP file so I is the alias for CLASSICINSERT rather than INSERT. I did that almost immediately.
