Name of Reference Changed

Howdy all, I have a user that is seeing the following message when the drawing is synchronized. No matter if he updates or keeps, the same dialog pops up again when the drawing is synchronized. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

For future people searching this, the message is, "The name of the source object for this reference has changed."

I found this old knowledgebase article but it was for Civil 3D 2020.

ugh, I am familiar with this problem.  I find that Validate Data Shortcuts can sometimes help.  But other times the problem can persist longer.  I am not sure what the root cause is, hopefully someone smart than myself can answer.

Pretty much what the error message says... sometime in the past someone change the name of the data shortcut object, so C3D has a fit. Best practice is to never rename anything that is going to be data referenced elsewhere. It's like renaming an Xref file or moving it to another folder; it generates messages telling you (cryptically) "Don't do that."

@jbarnesSKRZK not to disagree with what you're saying, but this is a massive, worldwide, self-proclaimed "partner to help people design and make anything" company, right?

It seems like being able to keep track of a string would not be a big deal. Xrefs get renamed and re-pathed every minute of every day for 30+ years with little harm. I wonder why this is such a seemingly insolvable problem? I'll bet this took many more man hours to create than it would take to solve this one of many ongoing shortcomings in C3D.

Have you looked at the Data Shortcut Editor to see what's going on? You could possibly change that shortcut type to either just "Name" or "Handle" instead of both and most likely that message will go away.
