Multiple Profile Styles for a Single Profile

It appears this received lots of attention 3-4 years ago but I am not sure a satisfactory solution was generated.  The question is what is the best way to apply multiple profile styles to a profile line in the same profile view?  Ideally you could have one profile that could be changed from an existing style, to proposed style, to a future style all along the same profile.  What is the best way to accomplish this in Civil 3D 2016 or later?  Thanks for being willing to chime in on this!  I know there are several "work-arounds" but these can be time-consuming. The key is to keep everything dynamically linked and to minimize the time required to accomplish this.

ok, see if i get this right

using the surface (existing or proposed) you can create profile from surface.

select a surface, check the sample offsets:  enter a distance left (use a negative sign), 0 (zero) for the center line, and a distance for the right.

set up styles for each and you have three profiles in one profile and one more style for the proposed finish grade.

Close.  Except I want this to be the same profile not offset profiles.  Forgive the old-school hand-sketch, but the attached should give a better idea. 

So from 0+00 to 10+00 one style, and form 10+00 to 20+00 another style, and from 20+00 to 50+00 yet another style.  On top of this I would like to keep my vertical curves labeled on the single profile even though they may span styles.  Hopefully this is a little more clear?  Thanks!

What you see here is actually four separate profile views, and the same profile being displayed with four separate profile styles.  The left, middle and right views all use a style that displays nothing except the view title and the profile itself with an override so that it looks how you want.  The fourth view is a more normal style, displaying the grid and elevations etc.  The layout profile in that view uses a <No Display> override style, so that all you see are the labels which are attached to it.

This is the approach that we were contemplating.  We just didn't know if there was a more straight-forward way to do it.  You would think that you should be able to specify a range of stations to display a sampled profile.  May be  in the future.

Absolutely! I believe Steve was demonstrating how to do it with a layout profile and that would require multiple views. But sampling a surface profile can be done multiple times for varying station ranges and applying different styles. When the surface profile dialog box opens there are two button on the left side that let you choose station range

The only caveat is that we are working with a design profile and not a surface profile.  We want to be able to label the design vertical curves along the profile and show by style change the various segments (existing, proposed, future, etc.) on a single design profile.  Thanks!

Now I'm confused - that's exactly what I did.  It's one design profile, being displayed with three different override styles, and a fourth copy with a no-display style that is used to show the labels.

Which is it @sduffin existing, proposed future in one line? What do you mean by sampled if its not a surface profile? you don't sample layouts, do you?

Sorry I used the wrong words in my description.  This is a design profile not a surface profile.

No apologies necessary, we are only trying to figure out what you are trying to accomplish.

so your design profile matches existing for segments and then goes back to design and or future.

Steve method is the way to go. have a overall profiles view to draw and edit the design/existing/ future line and use the various views to display as desired.
