Modeling depressed curb & gutter at driveway entrance

Hi,

Looking for advice on modeling a commercial driveway entrance (with R40' curb returns and depressed curb & gutter) where it meets a main road corridor in Civil 3D 2024.

Specifically:
- Should the depressed curb transition be handled within the main road corridor (swapping subassembly or using a target over that station range), or modeled separately as feature lines?
- Is the Intersection Wizard appropriate here, or is it overkill for a single driveway condition?
- How do you maintain gutter flowline continuity across the depression?

Any tips or workflow references appreciated. Thanks!

I've always done it with Featurelines to target. But I've seen that it's now possible with transitions.

I guess how I would model the driveway, would be to maintain the region though the driveway on both sides of the road to maintain the gutter. The gutter on that region would be your depressed curb. 

 

I use feature lines for the curb returns, and I am assuming that you have an alignment for your driveway - I would trace your "finished ground surface profile" for your "finished ground profile" (essentially mimics the section of road where your alignments intersect. 


this will ensure that if you use a alignment and surface target for your curb returns on your pavement section, you can target your driveway alignment and profile ONLY and omit the pavement section (only model the curb) where it would create chaos and your regions would be crossing. 

 

If you give me a minute, I literally have a project right now that has a similar problem that I haven't graded yet and I can take some snips.

My thoughts...

- I would do the curb depression in the corridor, precisely because of your last question re maintaining continuity.  Different subassembly, of course.  I have used the corridor in the past to do the driveway apron also, but I prefer to use feature lines for that.

 

- The intersection wizard is overkill here, IMO.  From what you show it seems pretty straight forward.
