Measuring/checking chainage and offset of a point perpindicular to a line

Hi, just wondering whether anyone knows what the easiest way is to measure/check the distance of a point perpindicular from a line (offset) and the distance along that selected line at which it intersects (chainage). So for example I would like to be able to select a line and then click on points either side of the line to give me the chainage and offset distances from that line. I am using Civil 3D 2018 with a Stringer add on. I know that a chainage and offset tool exists in other survey specific programs such as Liscad. I have been using UCS to set the line and then using the coordinates of points to tell me both of these things but I'm wondering if there is a better way.

You'll need to implement the survey database and use the survey command line to set up a baseline a d then it will inverse the points as you request. Check out survey command line help

Create an Alignment out of the line (or on top of it).

Then in the Inquiry Tool under Alignments, use "Alignment Station and Offset at Point"

Do we have any update on this question, please? In survey, checking perpendicular distance from a point to a linework is very common. In Liscad, it is simply one click to a linework and 2nd click to a point.
