Max EGL line not exporting to DWG.

Is this a known issue or is there a trick to getting it to export along with the rest of the diagram?

and u want to import (to a C3D file) or export from (CED file) to another format??

Are you trying to export data from SSA and import into Civil 3D?

The MAX EGL is the Maximum Energy Grade Line.  The SSA program shows it quite nicely and the layers that are setup in SSA to export to AutoCAD DWG file format show the MAX EGL.  However, when you open the file up in AutoCAD (with or without C3D), the MAX EGL layer does not ever show up in the layer list.  It must be a bug.  I noticed that the version of AutoCAD DWG is Release 14 - so this tells me that the SSA program appears to have not been upgraded very much at all in many years!

Are you trying to export just the profile plot itself, or the whole file?

Being that the profile in SSA is not perfect (had some errors in display), I was trying to export the profile to AutoCAD.  The imperfections found in the profile in SSA were corrected in the export to CAD, with the one exception of the MAX EGL not even coming through.

Gotcha. I haven't been able to get a CAD export from an SSA profile to work properly. I usually export to a Storm Sewers .STM file and import to Civil 3D  as a pipe network. The pipes will have HGL/EGL data in their properties, and then you can plot the lines in profile view. The display of the lines is controlled in the pipe style.

Thank you for your input.  There does not appear to be a graceful solution, but several band-aid approaches are available.  I hope that Autodesk takes a hard long look and upgrades things from Release 14 DWG formats to current (allowing you to choose the desired file format, be it DXF or DWG and what release), and fix the issues that everyone seems to be running into.

Just curious, are you really talking about Release 14?  The rascal came out in 1982 and at time was REALLY good.

When I did the CAD export option from the profile, then went to Civil 3D and opened the DWG file SSA had generated - AutoCAD gave me a message saying it was opening a Release 14 DWG file!

I agree that R14 was a pretty stable version (I have been around since version 2.17 myself). 🙂
