mapping file for plot styles

Here is my scenario. I have a file that is plot by style. I xref a file that is plot by color. Could you set up a mapping tool/layer states/magic spell that would read the xref layer colors and based on this assign a named plot style and lineweight via xref overrides?

And in reverse. I have a plot by color file and xref a named plot file. Could you map the xref lineweight and plot style or layer name to a color that works for the color table?

Thanks.

I would probably do it programmatically, but if you don't know AutoCAD programming languages, you can use ConvertPstyles and its related commands:
