I am working a drawing where we have a large number of .shp files that are single points that I have imported into civil 3D using the MAPIMPORT command. I have added data to the shapefile when i bring them in.

I need to have all the individual sets of points put in point groups. I made all the point groups and am now trying to import the points into their respective point groups. My issue is that when I try to import ANY of my points in to any of the point groups it does not recognize them and will not let me add them to the groups. Any one experienced something like this?

Are the points being converter to COGO on import? Point group hold COGO points.

I found the conversion tool to convert autoCAD points to COGO points. Unfortunatley when they were all AutoCAD points they were easy to distinguish by layer. When I conver them they revert to layer 0 instead of retaining their original layer. Now I need to go back and import the sets ONE at a time so I can keep the layer names consistent with the Point group. Smiley Mad

Look into Description Keys: you set up the keys and the points will go to the layer intended
