MAPIINSERT Issue

Within Civil 3D I am trying to insert USGS 24K Quad Maps from Topoview Get Maps websiste.  I need to find the correct coordinate system to insert the map at the correct position and size in feet.  Most of the work I do is in Central Florida using maps of the area, i.e. Orlando East, Apopka, etc. in the East and West zones.  I believe the maps are in Meters, but we use feet in our drawings. I have used files from the USGS topobuilder site and those work perfectly but those are current maps and my people want to use the old USGS maps.  Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Hi Christopher,

In spite of your prj file showing otherwise, your XML file projection shows a Central Meridian of -81.3125, False Northing:0, and False Easting:0, which doesn't match any coordinate system in Civil 3D. Florida East has a Central Meridian of -81.
You can either create a matching custom coordinate system in Civil 3D and Attach/Query into your drawing, or use QGIS to re-save your tif as EPSG:6438 NSRS11.FL-EF.
Keep in mind that MAPIINSERT is not very good at transforming, so whatever coordinate system you use in Civil 3D, re-save the tif to that same coordinate system in QGIS. (Or jump through Attach/Query hoops.)

Thanks for the quick reply and info. Basically, you tell me what I was suspecting that Civil 3D does not have a listing and I would have to create one.
Thanks

Could you bring it in through Mapimport instead and then export that image out into the correct coordinate system?

Then insert the new photo through Mapiinsert?

Christopher,
"...Civil 3D does not have a listing and I would have to create one."
Yes. Or the faster way would be to Transform the image in QGIS, Global Mapper, or ArcGIS.

Christopher,
Attached please find a drawing with a custom coordinate system that will allow you to MAPIINSERT the Topo Map, and even check location against Bing Live Maps. You can then use >>>Attach/Query<<< to bring the Map into your State Plane drawing.
