Locking Dynamic Objects

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on this subject? The idea is to be able to lock down dynamic objects to prevent unintentional edits and unlock them when an edit is necessary.

Over the years this has been a prevalent problem by accidentally manipulating objects with unintentional results. Most of the time it is immediately obvious, occasionally something will slip by with impacts to surfaces, gradings, volume reports, etc. that is not noticed until it is reviewed and the numbers don't quite match what you previously had.

I don't think layer locking is the way to go. As I recall this can make C3D crash. At least that was the case a long time ago.

Is there a feature or function for this?

Points and surfaces have a lock mechanism built-in. Other objects don't.

One helpful workflow is to use Data Shortcuts as much as possible. If an alignment is referenced from a data shortcut, it cannot be inadvertently modified.

I hadn't heard about layer locking crashing drawings. We have used it successfully for many years.

Best regards,

Tim

Good point about the Data Shortcuts, I have just started using them and like what I see so far.

I vaguely recall an issue with C3D2007 and layer locking. But now that I think about it I do sometimes lock layers with point data with no issue, so maybe just something from the distant past.

Thanks!
