LINEWORKSHRINKWRAP Bow Tie

I wanted to see if LINEWORKSHRINKWRAP would work on FeatureLines. It does. But in the test I did I ended up with an area that looks like a Bow Tie but is really 2 separate polylines.

I tried reversing the FeatureLine at the top of the figure. That had no effect. Does anyone know enough about the command to suggest a way to fix it>

I'm using Civil 3D 2021.2

Hi @AllenJessup Manually add Lines at indicated points. Use these in your LineworkShrinkwrap selection set.001.jpg

Good Idea. Hopefully I don't have to do too much in the actual process. I have new FeatureLines from scans on a road job. I want to Shrink Wrap those FeatureLines and ignore all the old field shots within that area. So use the new FeatureLines for the road and some changed or added driveways and use the old shots outside of that.

Like hatch and boundary, this command does not prefer variying Z's. When shrinkwrap fails I typically,

1. Select the flines and copy out of the way or to a new site

2. Flatten with a zero elev surface

3. Run shrinkwrap

Also a good idea John. I will do that for the actual work. The FLs I used for the test were a zero elevation.

Shrink wrap doesn't work well with varying Z values. I use it for triangles from 3rd party software and copy the triangles by a displacement, flatten, shrink wrap and then move the boundary back to the original.

Failing to do this will create a shrink-wrap but close inspection will reveal that the boundary doesn't honour the required boundary.

While the suggestion by @jmayo-EE will work. I still had problems with the very complex polylines. I ended up creating a Surface from the Featurelines and extracting a polyline from the Boundary. I had to do just a few edits to end up with what I wanted.

I used that polyline to create a Hide Boundary on the original surface. Then I extracted the 3D Faces and used them in a new drawing as part of a Surface including the 3D Faces and the new Featurelines from the Point Cloud.
