Not knowing your definition but sometimes map import object by entity
you mah have a layer for the linetype but map made it continuous.

As Joe says, MAPIMPORT puts the lines onto a Layer. You can choose a Layer that has your Custom Line Type.

Sorry couldt get back earlier. I had to modify the ltScale of the object and it worked fine.
I have the shp file. Had to modify the object ltscale to make it work
I was doing this step correctly. Had to modify the ltscale to make the line types appear correctly
