Legend Code in Geotechnical Module

I am using the geotechnical module and am not sure where to find legend codes to use in my excel file so I can import my data in. Are legend codes mandatory, and if so, are there standard codes? Also, can you briefly explain the purpose of the legend code and why it is used.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

I used Geotechnical module in its early days. In my memory of using csv I normally ask geotech team to give me Ags or csv or any gint file they have and used that to import to Civil 3d through Geotechnical module. If you are looking for legend or code I remember seeing BH as borehole and TP as test pits and probably there are more and you can contact the company who wrote it and chat with their online chat to give you sample legend to use for csv or sample file as a guide. Thank you but the video did not answer my questions. Can you briefly explain the purpose for the legend code in the geotechnical module, and what I am missing out on if I do not have it included? I can not find any answers elsewhere.

Hi 

 

Legend codes are user in the UK and other parts of the world and are predefined values used to describe the physical appearance of the soil/rock.  If your local geotechnical codes of practice do not use them then do not worry about them.

In essence they are similar to the USCS in the USA. 

 

If you do not use them then ignore them, or use then to show other properties of your data.

Hi, 

thanks for your answer, but it seems a little bit convoluting at the same time, when looking at the USCS in the USA, couldn't find anything about it, would it be possible to find something more accurately about this list, for example location type abbreviations!?

the idea of solving this question is to have a certain order in the tables classification in our company, and in our drawings specially after entering the data.

For those still looking, the AGS published this in "Electronic Transfer of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Data (Edition 3.1) including addendum April 2005" in Appendix 1 - Pick Lists Groups ABBR, CODE and UNIT.
