layering for multiple surface contours

hey everyone....I appreciate all the great help I've been getting on this board!!! Here's another question: I am doing multiple scenarios of contoring within the same dwg.  I have a style set up, but i don't want each set of contours on the same layer. Is the best way (or only way?) to just keep creating different styles that reference different layers, or is there something I am missing?  Would like for each scenario to be turned on/off by layer if possible. Thanks

Take you surface style and make all layers 0 in plan, profile and model. You can now place each surface on it's own layer and have full layer contol of color, linetype and lineweight. You can also freeze, thaw, isolate and unisolate the surfae layers.

To make this permanet in you template edit the surface style as above and in the Drawing Settings, Layers tab find the TIN surface entry. Set the Layer to zero and add a prefix or suffix to meet you company standards.

See the attached for an example. In this template users have full layer control for all Civil 3D objects.

that seems to be what I am looking for. One problem w/ it on my end.....I have attached 2 screen clips. I added the prefix in the dwg settings, but I am still getting a "0" in my layer name.  Take a look at the attached images. Anybody know what might be going on? Thanks

That is expected since the layer settings have this as a base and you are only adding a prefix or suffix to the layer name 0.

I like this because it is a good indicator that the layer was created by c3d. Most users won't take the extra time to add the meaningless -0. 😉

If you don't want it then remove the last hyphen in your settings.
So it would then read:
