Laptop for Civil 3d 2017

Quite frankly it depends on what you mean by "work".  Sure it will probably load and do a few small projects but you cannot expect too much at that price. ($ 530).

8 GB of memory will probably be tied up with the operating system and Civil 3D loaded before you even load a file.  The 1 TB of hard disk will not be an SSD (solid state) drive which may be a small problem with loading files.  and the i5 is not too much either.

Just my 2 cents.

I should have been a little more clear.  This laptop will be used in the field for the survey crew to only input survey data.  No actual 3D is being done.  Simple stuff, I know its low on ram, but again its for the field.  Reason why I asked, my boss asked to to help her find and find a computer for the field techs, so I recommended this one.  The best buy sales rep told my boss, "there is no way this will work!", and up sold her on another more expensive laptop.  Now I look....... well say dumb even tho I believe this laptop would have done just fine.

Or am I wrong?

Well, I don't think you are wrong.  However, I would think the field crew would only need a Data Collector.

Correct, but to save time, we are hoping they can import the data in the filed and email the DWG files to the office.
