Land Desktop 3

I've been using LDT3 w/ ACAD2000 drawing for 20+ years and now it won't create contour data from polylines.  When I first open the drawing, I get the message "This application has detected objects from a newer version in this drawing. Some commands may not be available.

Use Save As R14 to convert this drawing into a format that can be read by this application.

Note: The newer version may contain features which are not compatible with this version. Therefore, some information may be lost when saving to R14. See the ReadMe for details."  Even if I save the DWG as R14, I get an endless loop of the message "ARX_ERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass".  Can anyone help me out?

Try  WBLOCK and select just the polylines.  Then open the drawing that you WBLOCKed.

Thank you.

I thought WBLOCK was going to work.

I was able to successfully add the contour data, but when I tried to build the surface it did not work, see attached screenshot.

Any advice?

It happened a few times for me (I'm using 2008 LDT)

Try either AECTOACAD or EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command, and use the new exported drawing.

Don't see any attached screen shot.

I am not at all familiar with LDT3.  What type of data do the polylines represent - contour lines, breaklines, random elevations ??  I am assuming that you are trying to create a topo map (contour lines) ??

When I used WBLOCK, it saved a DWG "new block" in the Land Projects 3 folder.

When I tried the two commands you just suggested, it says "Unknown command".

Can you post the drawing so we can see what's in it? I've used LDT in the past. But, I haven't touched it in years. Do I remember correctly that it can import a LandXML?

Drawings attached, original Runkle Major Topo polyline drawing and WBLOCK exported new block drawing.  Error message from failed surface build for new block also attached.

Thanks.

I created a Surface and exported a LandXML file (attached).

Another method you could try to DXF out the polylines to an R12 format. That might clean up any issues.

Is it possible that the Surface would be too large for you machine to handle?

I'll try your DXF and R12 suggestions.  How do I open an XML file?

Thanks.

Try LandXMLIN or some variant on the command line. As I said. It's been a long time since I was in the program.

I finally got it to work w/ the save as DXF R12 method.

I just don't understand why it quit working w/ ACAD2000 DWGS after 20+ years of doing it.

Thanks again.

Glad that worked for you. It may be because of the size of the data. Civil 3D failed on my first attempt to export the LandXML. See what happens when working with a smaller data set.

I got it to work using save as DXF R12, but I'm still upset that it won't w/ ACAD2000 DWGs as it used to in the past.

Thanks.

I suspect there is either something in the drawing or it's the size of the data. However getting it to work by running it through a DXF file would tend to say it's not the size.

Do you have another drawing to test your workflow with. That will tell you if it's a continuing issue with LDT or that particular drawing.

Try the attached DWG file.  I converted your "new block.dwg" file to R14 and reduced the vertex count on all the contour lines.

I have recently MENULOADed my menu into Civil 3D.

The menu calls vaious *.dvb procedures.

They all return an "Execution Error".

My mns file is attached.
