Labeling Dense Contours of a Complex EG Surface

Hello,

I have some dense and detailed contours from lidar (topography) and mulitbeam sonar (bathymetry) data as seen in the attached pdf.

The level of detail is nice, but it makes labeling the contours difficult. When I use the label multiple contours command, sometimes the text overlaps as shown below.

Is there a setting that exists to deal with this problem? Something like a minimum distance between labels would be perfect.

Another potential solution would be for the software to recognize when it is attempting to label the same contour more than once. This would make labeling small shoals and hills much easier.

My current workflow is to try using the label multiple contours as much as possible, but then I inevitably have to use single contour labels where the multiple labels start to overlap.

Any other advice on displaying this data is welcome and appreciated!
