Issues with creating surface causing Civil 3D to crash

I have a fairly simple survey file I can't seem to be able to create a surface to. Every time I try by selecting contours it freezes up with the blue circle, then just crashes. I have purged an audited and still does it. I even copied the contours over to a clean file with nothing else and it still crashes. Can anyone tell me why it might be doing this? I'm not getting any errors, just a freeze then a crash.

I created the surface with no issues.

However, I find that you have so my turned-off/ freezer layers in the drawing.

Also, I ran an overkill command which deleted 100 overlapping objects on contours.

there is nothing wrong with the file and creating the surface. you just have to turn all layers on and thaw them too. there is no magic here.

Turn on all layers and create your surface 
but first Run Audit command

Hi Jeffrey,
In addition to Jeewana's excellent mention of using the OVERKILL Command, I used -PURGE to rid the drawing of 75 RegApps. Surface created with no problems.

Thanks. We have a standard in our office when we receive survey files to not change or remove any layers, except for color and linetype scales. What was weird is how quickly it would crash every time.
