Is there any way to "export" Property Sets from TIN surface object to 3D Solid?

Hi.

I have property sets for TIN surface object and I want to export (transfer) these property sets to a 3D solid.

I use 3D solid because is the unique object valid to export to IFC file related to a TIN surface.

Currently, I have this idea:

Step one:

-Defining  user properties in 3 property Sets.

- Defining 3 property Sets, one for each object: Property set called "surface", property set called "corridor", property set called "pipes network".

Each property within each set will be a manual property.

For example, if surface has the property by formula called "area3D" I will also have a manual property called "area3D" for solid 3D in the Property Set called "SurfaceProp"

All default values will be "**" in the manual properties.

I will put the variable: AECPSDAUTOATTACH as ACTIVATE so that I create a new solid 3D, its property Sets will be assigned automatically in the solid 3D. The same when I create a surface, corridor or pipes network.

STEP 2:

If I can´t transfer the property sets from Surface object to a particular 3D Solid, then I was thinking about exporting properties of the surface to a Excel file. Maybe I can do this with Dynamo ¿?

Or EXPORTPROPERTYSET command to get an Excel/Acces file:

STEP 3:

Due to all user properties in a 3D solid will be MANUAL, I will have to add manually the values for each one. If I have attached an Excel file, this process will be just the first time, but if I create a new 3D solid to replace the out of date 3D solid, I will have to do the same again.

Any ideas?

Hi,

It is doable with Dynamo. Could you elaborate on what properties you’d like to associate with the Solid, and I’ll give it a try. It’s good practice 😊

Hi @joantopo ,

Refer to this <Dynamo Forum link> to show the sample workaround and sample DWG and DYN files.

Special thanks & credit to @samir_rezk & @marshmallow on this one for the Dynamo idea/workaround.

Hi.

Thank you both for all.

I need time to study about Dynamo.

I don´t understand very well how it works.

Could you explain, please, the steps of the workflow?

If I edit the TIN surface, I will have to create a new 3d Solid. How do you pass the Handle value of the new 3D solid to the script? Manually?

Thanks.

@Jowennl Maybe a bit of a sidenote, but i downloaded the example files and used the formula definitions. First i tried recreating them in a new drawing and they did not work, the max grade, surface name etc. Then i  imported a shortcutted in a  surface into the example drawing and also created a surfcae from scratch, but in neither case does any iformation get transferred from the surface to the extended data. Any idea of whats going wrong?

Muchas gracias
