Is there a way to keep user notes within a dwg file?

I am looking for a way to keep project/drawing status notes within a drawing file.  These would include notes on any revisions that had been made to the drawing as well as any reminders (details that still need to be added, survey information that is missing, etc.).  It would be great if the users name and date could be added to these notes.  I could always create a separate word document for this, but that is too messy.   I want for everything to be together in one file.  Does something like this exist?  I would think so, but I have searched online and come up with nothing.

Thanks!

Perhaps this will work.

1.  File -->  Drawing Properties --> Summary Tab

I have not used this much but it appears you can enter quite a bit of information in the Comments Section.

Drawing Notes is one of the hundreds of generic productivity tools found in DotSoft's ToolPac.

All of the content is stored inside the drawing file.

Maybe using drawing properties (dwgprops) can do what you need.

Or you could use a named view in the drawing encompassing an area away from the plot area and put the notes on a usually frozen area. Named views can have layer states associated with them so that setting that view current would bring you to the area of your user notes and thaw the layer the notes are stored on while freezing the other layers. Using layer states you could easily return to the plotting layer setup by freezing the notes layer and thawing all others.

You could also use a paper space layout with out a view port as a place to store you user notes.

To expand on what @cwr-pae said. Create a layout. Create a table in paperspace on that layout tab. If that table fills up. Create another table on another layout tab.

This is by no means a solution, but perhaps you could suggest your "idea" within the Idea forum. I too would like to have AutoCAD create a separate "notes" section like the one you've mentioned.

You will have my vote  : )

Hello @kimberlymiller822! I don't think this functionality currently exists, at least in the way we are used to seeing in collaboration softwares like ProjectDox or Bluebeam Revu. As the Autodesk AEC softwares continue to move towards facilitating cloud-based collaboration workflows, I expect this to change. There is no timeline I can give on this at the moment.

As @AllenJessup mentioned, isolating these notes in layouts would be a good idea. If in table form, those notes could even be linked to a master excel file that tracked status changes for all files in the project.

As @qnologi mentioned, feel free to submit this idea here!

All the best,
Winston

The caveman approach:

keep a block of MTEXT on a no plot layer that acts as a running diary

Using the  @Joe-Bouza caveman approach, I include a "notes" non-plot layer in all drawings. This allows me to leave random notes, comments, calculations, warnings and reminders where ever I want.

@Joe-Bouza

Me caveman too.

Although I use a MLEADER, with a font style completely different than the text/mtext in the drawing, and place it on layer "REDLINE", so that it plots in red, and all redline notes can plotted/frozen/thawed depending on the situation.

This is exactly what I was looking for!  Since it's not a free item, I'll have to check into it when I have a few minutes.  Thanks so much!!

I was wondering if you could use Object Data attached to a revision symbol. I've never tried that. But it might work. You could display the date in an Object Data Table in MS or a PS Layout.
