Here's the issue - An alignment runs through a future parking "bench" cut into a hillside. Normal enough, except the extents of the roadway are irregular. The way the corridor draws perpendicular to the alignments becomes an issue as the angle the asphalt surface (of the parking lot) Increases from perpendicular to the road - this means my daylight sections are not perpendicular to the actual top of slope which can dramatically increase the fill required (in the case of a fill section at least).
The workaround is to create a new baseline at the pavement hinge where the daylight begins - this ensures the daylights will be perpendicular. I've tried to make this work numerous ways but it seems the DATUM surface missed the invoice and always jumps between the datum and top surface - like a SAW wave or surface of knives.
For my new baseline attachment - It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using:
- an alignment using the corridor TOP as a vertical baseline
- automatic feature line from the corridor
I always get the same results with the DATUM surface. Is there a better way to do this. I've experienced it with multiple projects now and have not had any success. the issue is that the two baselines are clashing with each other based on the draw frequency but I don't know how else to do it.
I realize I could easily build the surface from feature lines - but I'm hoping to have a somewhat Dynamic surface that will give me my quantity take-offs- hence the trouble with corridors.
