Importing points with Letters in description

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

I´ve been studying Map and Surveying for the past year, and been wondering why i can´t include letters when importing points in Autocad Civil.

I would prefer this, to only numerical categorization, when processing the data afterwards.

The Data is defined as follows in a text file: Number/Raw Description/Easting/Northing/Elevation... When trying to define another format, by adding a column like Name or Full description, I´m unable to import.. I hope someone can help, thanks

Jesper

raw description and full description can be one in the same. in PENZD format D= raw or full depending what you decide to do with description keys.

Letter are definitely allowed in point descriptions,. so it is hard to figure what you have going on. can you share a small file

Hi Joe-Bouza
Might be some non-essentioal info in what follows, bear with me.)

We use description keys, defined by the Raw description, to define the
observations.
I´m quite new to the environment, but you might have an idea.
I´ll attract an example.

Hi Jesper,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
I don't see anything attached to your post. Just a small sample point file would be nice. If you could post your drawing that would be great. We could see how your Description Keys are set up.

Civil3D supports both a point number (unsigned integer) and a point "name" (string).  You will want use point name in your import formats as well as your label styles, point table styles, etc.

Jesper,
A couple of things. There's a "-" where your elevation is supposed to be. That won't fly. So I modified your sample 2 points to:
6 1W 10 1915 637055.298 1182909.553 105
6 2W 11 1915 637055.294 1182899.556 110
And I modified your "SDL2 EN" Point File Format like this:

Actually, if i make a new label style, i could just omit the number, since the name tag accepts both letters and numbers?...Or could this give problems related to essential functions in autocad?

Edit: Omitting the number Tag was not a good idea..D

Thanks again
