Importing GIS .lpk files

Hi,

I am fairly new to importing GIS data, I know how to bring in shape files. I recieved a .lpk file from a jurisdiction and was wondering if there was a way to import it into Civil 3d 2015 or if I would need to use arcmaps to export the information I need? I was able to extract files from the .lpk file (contained one .shp file). After bringing in that file it was clear I was missing additional information.

AutoCAD can't import the lpk files directly, you will have to take them apart using ArcMap. The layer package files usually contain information about stylization in addition to the shapefile. They can also contain joined tables. If the only thing you found in the lpk file is a shapefile, then all of the data is probably there, it just isn't being displayed in the current map layer style. If you select a feature in the shapefile in your drawing, you should be able to see its attribute values in the properties. If the attributes you are looking for are not included in the shapefile, go back and look for a .csv, .xls, or some sort of external data file that you can join to the shapefile table in your CAD drawing. If you have access to ArcMap, you could also just export the layer to CAD entities and be done with it.

Thank you Kirk,

Luckily we do have ArcMap, C3D is new to our company and we were trying to see if there was an easy way to just use C3D to import the data since I knew how to bring in shape files. No one had seen an .lpk file before so we were not sure the best way to handle it. Thank you for all of the information, it is very appreciated and I will be passing it on to the rest of my office.
